Fake tattoos

Hubbie and I are all about letting our kids be themselves and expressing them in creative ways. One just happens to be fake tattoos. The boys are always putting as many as they can on at one time, pretty much copying hubbie. B1 comes in the living room the other day, holding a rag to his cheek. Me, being a tad bit surprised because I didn't hear any crying or screaming, I jumped up an out my comfy spot freaking out. I asked him, "What happened?" He giggles, " Nothing Momma, look!" He moves his hand from his handsome little cheek and what do you know the boy has put a tattoo on his cheek! What can I say only in my house!! He asks, "You like them, Momma?" "Of course, I do that's a creative place you put them in!" ;-) Me trying not to crack up laughing!!! Next thing, I know he comes back in with the other cheek done, his chest and left his arm. Mind you, they are all some form of snake, skull or dragon. Wishing I would have taken his picture now! We ended up having to go to the store that evening and as we pull up, B1 goes "I don't wanna go in the store, I want to stay in the car!" I am looking at him like you never reject going to the store? So I ask him, " Why not?" "Because people will make fun of me, they'll judge me, Momma." People this is my 6yr old saying this to me!  I talk to him find out that he feels this way because he has tattoos on his face and don't want people to laugh or make funny faces. Now, I have taught my kids early on that we don't make fun of, laugh, smirk, and never stare at people who are different. We give our normal smile and keep it moving! If, they have questions they are to wait and ask when later. My kids are very good at this!!! I really want them to see the beauty from within! I simply explained to him that people are going to stare and probably judge him, but he should walk with his head up and be proud of his tattoos!!  Needless, to say the old man greeter, and two different women said they thought his tattoos were cool and he shouldn't hide them. Wow, didn't realize what a big deal fake tattoos could be! But, I believe through this he has learned that just because some may not like what he does, they don't have to live with it or him so who cares about their opinion. On another note, trying to get them off before school on Tuesday was a little rough, so I don't think he will be putting anymore on his face. We had to use alcohol pads  to get them off. lol BOYS!!
